Lt. Harry H. Crosby

5-29-43

Dear Father,

The day is here. Tomorrow I leave for the war.

I don’t know what to think about it. I’m rather scared—that’s a pretty big ocean to cross and a pretty big war when I get there. Yet—it’s all a gamble. People drop dead on street corners.

So all I can do is hope and pray. I do so wish that I can get back by Christmas. . . . Good luck and try to help Mother be happy and brave.

Your son,

Harry
