"A Tragedy in the Pacific" [Run Time [1:23]

Mechanics work on Amelia Earhart's Lockheed 10E Electra in preparation for her around the world flight while she watches. Ms. Earhart stands in front of the plane with her husband George Palmer Putnam, and her advisor, Paul Mantz. Her navigator, Fred Noonan, appears briefly in front of the aircraft. Amelia Earhart boards the plane and takes off. Newspaper headlines, such as "Earhart Plane Lost at Sea," "Earhart Down," and "Sea Hunt On" appear. The USS Colorado is shown searching the Pacific. Planes take off from an aircraft carrier in the biggest ever search of Pacific.
