Harold Gatty designed this drift indicator in 1930 and used it on his 1931 around-the-world flight with Wiley Post in the Winnie Mae. More accurate and easier to use than earlier drift sights mounted outside the aircraft, Gatty’s drift meter became the standard design for civil and military air navigation.
